[Vwdiesel] Question: restarting an old diesel that sat 2 yrs

  My Honda 350 did the exact same thing. I got as far as pulling the 
engine.  Still haven't torn it down to clean and free it up yet.  
  A friend's Rabbit diesel managed to gather enough condensation, 
with the head off, that it puddled a little and rusted the cylinder.  
Never froze it up I guess and all was evaproated when he reassembled 
it.  A bit less than a year later it wasn't starting well.  Tore it down to 
rering it and as I was wiping out #1 from honing it, there was a "wallow" 
in the side of it.  The rust had softened the metal enough that there was 
a noticeable crescent in the side of the cylinder wall.  :-(
