My other early Audi, a '73 100GL, had a 1.9L of quite different
design, not sure of the heritage of this one. That engine was very strong and
absolutely bulletproof, all the way to the junkyard... the inboard front

I'm wondering if it wasn't a European truck or tractor engine. I remember
a friend saw something of an article in an import VW magazine. The Porsche
924 engine was an Audi truck engine with a (not much better) different
head.

Dad just had a "fun" one the other day. Vac/hydraulic brakes on the
orchard gooseneck failed. The master cylinder's single cup seal finally
had it. Trailer and tractor loaded on it was about 15K lbs. Truck's front
tires slid for about 100' I guess. He took out a power pole instead of the
4 cars in front of him. Surprisingly only the RF corner of the truck and
he seems ok. State Patrol man said he "done REAL good."
