Yup, they do have to. And having driven 1.5 hours with a failed heater core back
from a camping trip, I can attest to it being a definite safety issue, between burning
the driver's feet, and fogging the windshield. Ironically, the core that failed was the
one I had replaced under the recall just before it failed. The original had 250km and
no problems - I should have left it. The 2nd time they replaced it under the recall,
they were very careful to place tags all over the car to show the recall had been
done.
So it's worth a shot...--
