[Vwdiesel] Blower motor & short story

I don't think it's the switch. With the car running, I turn the switch on
and I can hear the engine lug down, (under load). Lights dim, etc. as if
there is a high current draw. (which there would be with seized bearings
(likely) or shorted windings. (less likely but possible).
It *could* be the switch if there was a short right at the switch, but I
would expect it would pop the fuse instantaneously if it was a dead short,
which is why I am leaning towards the seized bearings idea. That and the
fact I originally found the fuse blown when I got the car.
Methinks the PO just got fed up with all the "little" breakdowns on the car.
Blower motor, rear wiper, leaky brakeline, stuck drivers seat, crusty
bodywork, broken am/fm cassette unit, leaky heater core, worn tires, window
propped up on pass. side, etc. etc.
His parents gave him another 86 Golf (2 yrs ago) in MUCH better shape with
1/2 the miles on it. Car is not a museum peice but real real nice......from
what you'd expect of a 1 owner machine driven by an older chap who was a
diesel mechanic his whole life. This one I got is a little raggedy around
the edges, not unlike Bud's car.
This is how I became owner of this wee beastie:
I was driving down a country lane 1/2mile from my house , where I knew one
person on the street. He wasn't home, so I was heading back up a way I had
never been before and I saw it parked right alongside his garage with a bit
of grass upside the tires. (obviously not driven in a year or more)
I just stopped and looked at it. The fella came out and we talked about
the GOLF parked beside his garage. No "for sale" signs on it, nor had he
ever considered selling it........by the time I left an hour later he said
"if I really wanted it.........gimme $100 and it's yours.".
But I digress.......no one wants to hear these crazy stories....LOL
I'll see if I can find a spot to post a couple pix on the net of the
wee-beastie.
Mike in NB......$100 86 GOLF, 404k kms
