My blower motor's bearings got so bad that it blew out several resistor packages before I pulled the cowl under the hood and examined it.  This was quite a job since the bolts holding the cover had rusted solid.  I found an identical motor in the junk yard for $45 and put it in.  It made a lot of noise for a while, but is running smooth now.
