[Vwdiesel] valve piston interference

I can say from experience that the 1.8 liter gas engine (code JH, 8 valve) as used in the scirocco and rabbit GTI is non interference.  I believe the later 8 valves are also safe.  I once threw a timing belt as I was pulling out (peeling out) of my driveway.  I put a new one on and got back on the road.  At least the gas belt drives the oil pump with the cog side.
