[Vwdiesel] newer tdi's

2000 - 2003 is the MK4 TDI with rotary fuel pump (except in the New Beetle,
whereas 1998 - 2003 is the MK4 rotary fuel pump).  2004 and 2005 is Pump
Duse (pump injector).

Rotary pump TDI's have a belt driven external fuel pump.  Power is rated at
90hp/155ftlbs.

PD's have an internal electric fuel pump and use lobes on the camshaft to
activate the injectors.  PD's also require a special oil.  Synthetic 5w-40
that meets VW 505.01 specs.  Power is rated at 100hp/177ftlbs.

Used TDI wagons are rare and command a high price.  TDI Wagon options are:

1996 - 1997 Passat (MK3 TDI engine, rotary fuel pump, 90hp/149ftlbs)

2002 - Present Jetta

2004 - Present Passat

Some VW's are built in Germany, some in Mexico, and some in Brazil.  To know
the country or origin look at the first three characters in the VIN.

W V W = Germany

3 V W = Mexico

9 B W = Brazil

hi kids.
ok..so hope this question doesn't start a war... ;o)
have another friend  looking at vw tdis FINALLY..
course...i know nothing bout newer diesels.
they want one from 2000  or newer.
now..heres that trick question..
is there a 'better' year to point them to?
or a year or production to stay away from?
anything in particular to look at?
they really want a wagon..

thanks for any suggestions on this..
as im a lil ignorant round cars
that have more then 8 wires to engine  :o)
