If you are a serious DIY here is what you got to do. Ok so you are a young whippersnapper.
Take a good look at how some of those OLD geezer did it. Here is a formula.:
NEVER turn down an offer of free tools. No matter how rusty. Sign up for night school to
learn welding machining ----Physics if that is offered.
After a long day in the salt mine I signed up for Aircraft welding (gas) ---not to fall a sleep
I took the biggest torch and turned on the oxygen full tilt at my face for a minute or so.
That kept me awake for the rest of the night.
I never turned down a course on anything in the military or corporate paid for.
The message ? --- down the road a piece you get to a point where things make sense.
Critical mass of experience and knowledge.
Is a dumpster a good supply source ? ---for me it was. Big corporations are wasteful beyond
my comprehension. Military surplus is great for a DIY---- For those in WA Boeing used to be
a gold mine.
No I have not forgotten about you in rentals and other countries. Boxes of nuts and bolts under
the bed ? bloody right. You can do it too. I was there so I know. In my case ?
yes I started with sour cream containers full of nuts and now I use 5 gallon buckets.
Am I happier now ? ---not really .--- what made me happy was the progress and accomplishment.
When that diesel started humming and that Bensen Gyro flew ? ---yeah that was
satisfaction.
Is there a problem with what I am saying ? YES the sad fact that smarts are something you
were given at birth. And if you do not have them --tough tits. ah what the hell do your best.
Like Gary Bangs said it is not nuclear physics.
Hagar.
PS: An Old millworker dies ---do I want his old toolbox ? yes yes yes. I now have
a collection of original Stillson wrenches and Monkey wrenches etc.(Stilson?)
