Odds are it's a blown/leaking head gasket. Could be a warped head as
well. Cracked block is rare except for when cracking it on reassembly by
torquing head bolt down without cleaning out the holes first.
A compression test will usually show a blown gasket. If it's not heavily
blown then difference might not be as obvious.
You don't often see water in the oil when these blow a head gasket. You
can get oil in the water without a cylinder leaking. The seal around the
oil passage sometimes shrinks away from the rest of the gasket and
allows oil to leak into the coolant (not the other way around since the
oil has the higher pressure and it's a small area) or out the front between
the head and block.
An off the car pressure test is the only way I know of to test the head.
They do crack and leak coolant or oil but not too often. Odds are it's
a gasket.
Indeed you can overheat one enough to warp a head or blow a gasket
without boiling it dry. Perhaps your cooling fan isn't working either?
