Here's what a real oil analysis looks like:
Test was performed by Predictive Maintenance Services. www.AVLube.com
OEM oil filter and OEM air filter changed at time of oil change.
First number was using Amsoil 15w-40, second number was using Amsoil 5w-40.
9921 miles on oil and 99,887 miles on engine / 10,068 miles on oil and
109,955 miles on engine.
Iron = 49 / 71

Molybdenum = 0 / 0
Fuel = A / A
Water = < 0.1 / < 0.1
Glycol = N / N
Viscosity @ 100°C, cSt = 15.7 / 17.2
Oxidation = 61.00 / 66.00
Nitration = 12.00 / 12.00
Soot = 0.3 / 0.7
TBN = 8.43 / 8.07
Comment - "Found soot level to be slightly above expected but only slightly.
All wear metals are under limits. However, the iron has increased from 49 to
71 compared to the last sample. This may be do to type of usage and/or from
the soot. Would suggest you inspect the air filter element for signs that is
doing its job but may be close to change out. Viscosity slightly high. No
corrective action at this time. Continue normal PM. Resample at normal
interval."
No "blotter test" will give you this type of important information.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Blotter testing --- (latest status here -15sept2004)
It has now been more than a year since I switched to using printer paper
instead of blotter paper. --- And I am NOT going back.
One of you asked me where to get the blotter paper (I have a corporate
donor) and I found
out that it was expensive and difficult to find.
So being an experimenter I tried a few different kinds of paper.Yes Mark
Shepherd LOO too.
What I discovered was , that IBM Jetprinter paper worked like stink. It is
harder to handle ,
but the end result is well worth it. If I had not used blotter test of
lube oil ---I would
never have known ----how much the soot loading was reduced by running LEAN.
I am still on the oil I put in last year. And the dispersant still works.
By the way I put
a drop of Susans Cavalier oil on one of my sheets. No sign of anything black
on her ass.
Most be a really clean running gasser.?
Soot loading was reduced on Bunny Bondo so drastically that it has to be
seen.Was
it Gavrik Peterson in WA that asked me ? it did me a great service.
