When I cleaned the intake on my Toyota, I used a parts washer w/ mineral
spirits and Gunk concentrate for the bulk of it.  I did find that carb
or fuel injector cleaner cut through the deposits faster, the price was
a lot higher.  I had the time, so I would run solvent through part of
the intake for an hour or so with the washer pump, then hit it with a
brush and repeat.
