Bon Ami cleaner was also used during WW II to seat rings in a/c engines.  The procedure as I understand was to hang the engine and leave the air
cleaner off.  Start the engine and some brave soul would get close to the beastie, and without loosing body parts to the prop would fling a handfull
down the intake.  The engine would bog down, if it came back up and sounded stronger it was now broke in and ready to go, if it didn't come back up or
quit completely then to much was used and the engine was pulled and another installed and "broke in" again.
