[Vwdiesel] Injection pump talk for beginners. -( type of pump for engine ?)

I dangle mostly with old rabbits but it goes for all VW diesels
with BOSCH VE pumps.

I have to confess that I was incorrect in the past --I said that 107 pumps
were 1.5L NA pumps. WRONG there is more to it. I said that 109 pumps were
turbo 1.6L pumps. That was incorrect as well. That info was based on looking
at pumps and where they came from.

I have since contacted BOSCH and it is a real mess , the way they wound up
numbering the pumps.

It has to do with the fact that the same basic pump is used on a lot of different
applications.

They will specify a newer pump for a 1977 Rabbit than it came with. So if it came with a
107 pump --now they may specify a 109 pump.

Gavrik : IMHO that spare pump of yours looks good to me so rinse and fill
with good DRY lube oil. --And 20 years from now it will be just fine.

And by the way IMHO a pump too far advanced helps to seat rings.

Hagar.

PS : VE ? simply indicates that it is a distributor pump (only 1 piston)
The other pumps (old type had 4 pistons)
