Ouch!
Yes, it is possible to change head bolts AKA RaceWare method.
But I would have to doubt the integrity of the head gasket.
When you over-torqued the bolts, you crushed the gasket 'x' amount. If
you change the bolts and relax the torque to spec, will the gasket relax
with it?
The engineer in me says no. But I didn't design the gasket.
But then again, when torquing to 60ft-lbs, did it feel like you were in
the stretch zone? Whenever I did stretch bolts, I could always tell when
I entered the stretch zone.
Perhaps you can just loosen each to, say 40ft-lbs, and bring back up to
44, and then continue the +1/4 turn sequences.
How lucky do you feel?
