Shalyn and all : I am in total agreement with James and Loren ---- relax
no need to hit the panic button just yet.
But not being a mechanic--- like you , and considering all the troubles you
had . I think I understand your worry.
I did some tests on bolts ----and high strength bolts take a lot to break.
Some 1/4 inch bolt did not break till about 100 foot pounds. (by memory).
And if you use studs ? you are in good shape in the block , because you can
utilize all the threads.
Look up a torque table for high strength bolts and that should put your
mind at ease.
In these archives one of our members posted a program about torque. If
I find the link I shall post it here. Very handy program.(big).
IMHO --- you are NO where near a blunder. But say it out loud for our
non metric friends ----WATCH OUT FOR NEWTON'S.
Hagar.
PS : we had a Newton glowplug in the past ---now that was a BLUNDER.
And by the way my tables say 1 Newton meter = 1.35582 foot pounds.
1 to 1.4 ? RELAX. ( what the hell is a nekton ?). A lot of us want to see that TDI do its thing again.
