[Vwdiesel] UPDATE: Rabbit electrical problem

Thanks to many responses, both on and off-list, I R&R'ed the ground
connections yesterday. The connection to the body was rusty, the
connection to the transmission was greasy and not at all shiny. Although
I had suggestions to run a new ground wire to a starter bolt and then to
the body, I decided to take the easier way (for me) and had a local
battery shop create a new cable to the same locations, but using heavier
wire (1 gauge to the transmission and 4 gauge to the body).

I charged the battery and restarted the car.

I am not sure if the alternator belt is too loose. If you squeeze it in
the middle, it will move about a belt thickness on each side. When the
car is running, you can see that slack moving up and down.

I did not have a chance to take any voltage measurements with the car
running yet.

I have a lot of things on my plate this week, and another car to drive,
so I may not be able to post any further updates for several days.

Thanks for all the help!

Mark
