[Vwdiesel] hillbilly TUNING. ---- ( the Valve train )

I'd say yes - when I checked mine cold, then later hot, after I got the tools, the 
differences were similar to what is indicated in the book. I also rotated the engine by 
hand after installing new discs, and re-checked, as in some cases, I've found them to 
be still off a bit. I always aim for the large end of the range, since they wear tight.
