If it was attached to a cut-out to the fuel solenoid maybe.
In fact here's an invention:
Put a temp sensor into the head and work it into a relay
supply that will cut-out the fuel solenoid.
Go back to these mechanics who obviously don't come from the
third rock from the sun and get them to explain it's
operation. Better still invite them onto this site to
explain to all of us. I take it that in the future you will
be finding a new team of  engineers!
