  Having been into a couple I see no way it could be the turbo bearings. 
If they were that sloppy the turbo impeller, turbine or both would hit 
the housing and make a scppprprrrrtttt!  sound.  Same with thrust 
washer in there.  Also if that much oil got into the housing then oil 
consumption would likely go way up as the seals aren't meant to 
hold pressure.  Oil slinging is used pretty heavily before you get to 
the seals.

  You'd have to physically stop the turbo from spinning. Blocking the intake 
would only make a vacuum.  The impeller will still spin in a vacuum.  Spin 
it at any turbo type speeds without the oil line connected and it won't last 
long at all.
