[Vwdiesel] Water pump?

I've been looking all over to see if there have been any posts about 
removing the water pump.  My car is an 85 Golf NA 1.6L.  Does the 
injection pump have to come off to get to the top 2 bolts of the water 
pump housing?  The car does not have A/C and does have PS.

My other thought was to pull the Intermediate shaft pulley off, it looks 
like the previous owner tried this and broke the lip of the pulley in 
one place.
