[Vwdiesel] Dying Glow Plug Relays???

Miser,

With separate #6 AWG wires and proper generously sized crimp on eyelet
connectors, all copper directly to a battery the four glowplugs draw a
combined 100 amps measured when they are starting up cold. This current
drops as their resistance grows with temperature. That is 25 amps x 12 or
300 watts per plug. The wimpy single #10 AWG wire that VW uses to run
gloplug power to a common wimpy copper bus cannot support that much current
without significant losses, so heat will be wasted in the VW wiring, but the
current is still pretty high on turn-on.

Rob
