  An air pressure adapter (usually homemade) or leakdown 
tester will also test a low cylinder and where the air leaks 
to tells you what is leaking.  Valves usually don't burn on 
the diesels.  :-)
  The volume to each injector would be the same since 
they all use the exact same metering cylinder and simply 
a distributor to direct the fuel.  A bad "check valve" could 
cause less fuel if it tends to not open well and could cause 
a tad more fuel if it doesn't close since the shock wave can 
bounce and open the injector a second, even a third time.
