I was in a auto repair shop once a very long time ago (I do my best to avoid
such places) and I recall the mechanics were really scratching their heads
over a Ford with a small v-8 in it that was overheating. They eventually
figured it out. The owner had installed a block heater and in the process
knocked the frost plug into the water jacket of the engine rather than
remove it. Somehow the plug had wandered it's way into the water pump where
it had cleaned all the vanes off the impeller! Remembering this story I'd
recommend that you get that piece of metal out'a there.
