Jeff Rakus --- I Hagar suggest that you read Loren ---in archives. ----Personally I do
not use Bentley procedures ---- BUT the way I do it requires the VC to be removed a LOT of
times. -----tightening of Head-bolts on a VW Diesel? --super critical IMHO.
Many years ago I started to use EPOXY on cylinder heads---- and I will NEVER stop now.
3M structural (gray) ---- and yes I did wonder ? --next time how the hell do I remove
cylinder-head ? ------- not to worry if you do it right ? ----it works.
What is so special about STRETCH bolts ? ---NOTHING ---all head-bolts stretch ---BUT the
factory found that --when a bolt hits solid resistance ? The stretch is according to
pitch on thread. and they posted the optimum.
OK we could say that the bolts are of a better grade.--notice that if stretched beyond
yield ? new bolt must be used. So you want to know about tensile and yield strength and
what not ? lets see if we can smoke James Hansen out of his Canola fields. ---I think he
has a laptop out there in the Rapeseed GMO.
I know he said he has a library right in the Cab. Funny thing I had the use of a Tinus
Olsen testing machine some years back.-----so I know --BUT I do not know how to write it
up here.
So what exactly did I test on that BIG machine ? --the steel spars that I used in the
Bensen Gyrocopter.
That was about 1963 --and I am still here ? --JA ? so the steel was ok.
Hagar.
