I know you like it that way, all considered but I tried it with what sounds
like more "main" (non LDA) fueling than you have and the LDA disconnected
and it just isn't safe on the highway here. I couldn't hold speed on the
hills,
didn't have enough acceleration to merge, etc. I plugged it back in halfway
back on the return trip!
If I wanted pedal to the floor power I'd drive an non modified Rabbit with
the
fuel volume screw turned out a tad. With a turbo I rarely ever put it over
3/4
of the way down, have much better acceleration and very little less mileage.
My 1.5, NA Rabbit excpted of course. It drives like it has about 5psi of
boost most of the time. :-) You could get about the same results in
cleanliness and power available without flicking a switch by raising the
spring perch (stiffening the spring) and setting the cone to minimum
enrichment (both are LDA settings). Then you'd have less than maximum
fueling under light boost (lean as you call it) and light enrichment under
boost, which could be turned up if you like but it might smoke when you
floor it.
My Dasher was boost with normal fueling when I got it. Really cool EGT,
no smoke, no power before 60mph and 55mph was the limit then. I
found out how to turn up the fueling and got some FUN out of it. Still
not snappy like my Rabbit but finally more than 600F EGT (1200+ actually)
much better acceleration and my mileage actually went UP 1.5 to 2mpg.
