[Vwdiesel] Engine Identifying

I recently acquired an 85 Jetta TD from out of my home area.  Upon traveling
to this vehicle I see the engine has been changed.  I believe it's a 1.9L
TD.
 
Can someone give me some identifying information for these engines and the
years built so I can buy the proper Bentley Manual and parts.  The first
thing I noticed was the Camshaft Cover on the head has three studs down the
center to fasten it instead of the usual 10 studs on the edges of the cover.
 
I live in Seattle and traveled to Southern California to pickup this car.
Does anyone have a good source of parts in S. CA.  Thanks.
