[Vwdiesel] Fw: Timing Q for my Q...

Firstly in my experiment I forgot that crank turns twice for one rotation
of pump/cam so # of teeth is 132 (thanks Mike) on the circumference.
Brian...
On # of Quantae...
Currently I indeed do have 4...
The one on the road is 'Cybil' gold wagon PO by a descendant of Perrins of
Worcester sauce fame (metallic beige according to VW) 1985 TD mechanical
head. Engine and mechanics perfect except rear 'hatch struts only work
sometimes and timing was wrong. Looks good but to the trained eye this is a
rust bucket and will be killed off mid next year. My original TD wagon
(white)1988 is of road simply because the patches of surface rust on the
doors made it look rough. No structural rust at all and will be completely
overhauled in 2006. Engine needs a rebuild as it does burn some oil and at
least one oil seal needs replacing. This one was doing 45 to 60mpg imp.
On my drive there is the 'Mars red' 1986 coupe I bought only for the
spare engine. Engine seemed good when I drove it home 3 years ago and turbo
spooled up beyond 10psi so that is good too. I have been meaning to chop it
up for all the time I've had it as I only wanted wagons. Apart from one
front panel that has rusted into pieces; there is no rust. Unfortunately
because everything behind front doors is different to the wagon, it is not
much good for spares ( including 1cm difference in height of rear
passenger doors) and being 5 inches shorter even the good towbar is
useless.rear struts/springs good but not rated same as wagon :o(
On Sunday collecting the latest 'Q' this is a 1988 pewter Wagon. It is a
gasser and a quite rare 1.6 as most of the last ones were 5 ganger. I
think I may put that engine into the coupe and sell it on. I'll then put
one of my TDs into this one. I'm told it was free of rust. (fingers crossed
there).
Previous 3 'Q's now dead were a Gambia red wagon GL model with all extras
except a/c. including the 3 gallon windshield headlight washer bottle that
made a very convenient canola carrier for my white TD.This was actually a
type of Dasher.
Another Mars red coupe 1983; very poorly made and the first one I ever saw
with rust in the engine compartment next to the struts.
And my first 'Q' which was called a Santana; was Stratos blue metallic and
very pretty with its blue glass it was a 1982 'Sedan' but was probably the
best made of the lot apparently using lots of Audi parts. A 1.6 gasser
again but someone had stuck a Webber carb on it and it was both economical
and fast. Only given up for the Gambia Wagon!
That's my life with VW in a nut shell [cocoanut]
