Loren;

Is that right about the (book rate) 2 hrs?... the VW shops down here
(SoCal) wanted $300 - $400
to 'check' the head, and replace w/new gasket if OK.... on a $500 rabbit!
If I thought I could DIMyself in a weekend, I'd probably try it....

  I can check but sure seems like it. Seems like it took me 2 to 2 1/2
hours. Dave in the next stall always considered them "gravy." To me
they were ok but not gravy. 4 hours would be my second guess and
I KNOW I can do one much faster than that so then it WOULD be
gravy. :-) As I said, did one in back, no jack, no air, the old 6 bolt
exhaust flange. From start to washed up was 45 minutes to remove.
That gives about 20 minutes to clean and an extra 10 to assemble and
still make it in 2 hours. Air and a jack or hoist would knock a few minutes
off that.
  You don't get to relax at rate! :-)
    Loren
