Well, last night I decided NOT to plug the block heater in and try to start
Bondo Golfy this morning now that I have all 4 GP's working. Unfortunately
(or fortunately, ha ha) the weather has turned unusually warm for Feb in NB
and it was only -9*C/15*F here this morning, but in any case, I cycled the
GP's once and the car roared to life almost right away. Like within 1 second
of cranking. There was also a quite a bit less smoke than usual. As Val(?)
(sorry I don't remember exactly who) stated, the smokescreen was likely in
part caused by the unburnt fuel in cylinder#2 while cranking and cranking
some mornings. It sounds weird, but I hope we drop back into the -25*C
deepfreeze, for a day or two before things warm up.....if for nothing else,
than to just test it.
The dead GP I removed last night had a thick layer of black soot on
it....which is I presume 'normal' for a plug unable to burn that fuel& fumes
off of itself ?
Thanks go out to all you guys for your help, guidance, constant assistance
and great limping home stories !
BTW, I think you should all get an award for being able to change #2GP
without removing injector lines, pump, wiring, or the head ! I am still
amazed I was actually able to do it all without ever actually touching the
GP, nuts, busbar or whatever with my fingers. It was all done with long
screwdrivers, wrenches, a magnet, a thin aluminum welding rod, string and a
remote magnet on a flexible stick. Good idea on putting down a white rag
underneath the GP while doing this job. I dropped the old nut once and the
new nut twice.
........ 430kms and still a shade over 1/2 a tank of diesel in the ol'
beast.........watch it drop like a stone as soon as I get under 1/2 a tank.
Local diesel is 96.9c/liter. $4.40CDN/IMPERIAL gallon.////$3.52CDN/US
Gallon////$2.87US/US gallon.
Furnace oil is looking better and better ;-)
