  I'd have no big concern about welding it most likely.  From Hagar's 
descriptions of the resiliency of the metal used in these blocks, it 
should weld well with less cracking than much cast tends to do.  You 
don't need to get it as hot as with brazing, which I'd also have no 
problem with other than how hot the block needs to be to do it.  Almost 
like solder, you just about need the metal hot enough to melt the braze 
rather than the torch doing it.   With welding you might get away with
leaving the pan on and just holding a wet rag on it and the front seal 
holder.  Brazing would probably need the pan off and still a wet rag on 
the seal holder.
