Brazing definitely better and worth paying for if you don't
have the heat (which I don't) :o(

I like the brazing idea better than epoxy. Any welder worth
his salt
could quickly braze the broken cast iron ear back in place
and you would
never have any trouble with it- guaranteed.

As an example~ My 1964 Massey Ferguson 65 Diesel tractor
has a braze
repair on the final drive housing. The weld is supporting a
major
portion of the 3-point hitch apparatus. Now this repair is
obviously
quite old and the tractor sees some pretty heavy demand even
today. I
use some heavy implements in this rocky volcanic area. I've
ruined two
top links and bent other steel components but the brazing?
No problems.

Bryant
Could you not supplement the 'gluing with a drilled hole and
studding/threaded bar.
