[Vwdiesel] Interesting GP Note

What is afterglow?  (Running the plugs after the
engine is shut down?  Or running them right after it
is started for a little while?)

If the former, why?  If the latter, I assume that it
helps smooth out the motor until it gets going well
itself.  Correct?
