Also, will a 12' cable be long enough for a Vanagon TD? I've heard the 
lead can be lengthened, just not shortened. Is this true? Is drilling & 
tapping the manifold or cast downpipe feasible? Most of the probes look 
like they are designed to just clamp onto a standard pipe...

Shawn   go to the airport at  Sydney     Victoria   and look at a few installations.
EGT ?    usually a Voltmeter measuring  a thermocouple.      Iron -Constantan or
Copper -constantan.      Extension wire is  usually special wire.
Yes drilling and tapping   manifold is best  ---that way you can monitor each
cylinder  using selector switch .     Difficult to get an accurate reading  ----for peaking ?

Simpler to use is a Cylinder Temp gauge from Aircraft.

PS :    I have a roll of wire I will never use   so let me know how much you need.
The wire is special in that is uses same type material as the junction.    Anything
else will change the voltage.    .DO NOT   shorten or splice wire for length
if you want accuracy     just coil up extra wire.
