Not all fission is evil. Most we've seen has been because the plants
were dual purpose, energy and weapons grade plutonium. Lots of
long half-life by products from that. Fission plants produce less
radiation than a coal plant and can be designed in "chain" so to speak.
If designed properly fuel from the first plant would create waste and
energy, the waste from that plant can be used to power another
plant that's designed to use THAT radioactive isotope and so on.
It still leaves radioactive waste but you can manage it down to
smaller amounts or shorter half-life byproducts, which hasn't been
the goal really yet. :-(
I think you can really boil it down to all power being "solar" since
gravitational usually means water since pushing rocks into a bucket
on a rope running a generator doesn't seem too practical. ;-D Water
would stop flowing and cycling if not for the sun. Same goes for
geothermal. "Tidal" forces on the planet's core should be what's keeping
it toasty. I've never heard any claims as to why it's molten other than
inference to it being residual from creation of the planet. With Io being
the little hottie that it is around Jupiter, it would seem to be
gravitational
tugging, which would be the sun and a bit of the moon.
When the big light goes out, noting else matters.
