[Vwdiesel] Undecided

Well my 30' x 36' garage is just about done. I have it all wired up and just
need to connect electrical service to the house and it will be done. That
means I can start on the jetta since I will have more time between work,
family and garage. I'm undecided on whether or not to go with raceware
studs or just keep with stretch bolts. I really plan on keeping this car and
it looks like I will be running daily 150 mile round trips for four weeks
this summer taking my daughter for therapy. So the economy will be nice. The
45mpg I was getting till now sure is great.

When you use the studs do you have to take the cam out to pull the head off?
I was wondering about that since you have that metal shield to clear and
with studs you have to pull the head straight up. At least with studs you
don't have to make guides for reassembly. Just don't know. I hear it from
both that studs are better and the head gasket last longer but then there
are those that have serious miles on stretch bolts. Decisions, decisions.

I'm hoping to find evidence of some kind when I pull the pistons out as to
why I have so much blow by. 400 miles to a quart of oil even after 5k miles
on the fresh rebuild is very frustrating. I specifically rebuilt this
engine when I bought the car just so I didn't have this problem.
