  I've found it to be a bit the opposite.  I drive it mashed until it's at 
speed
pretty much no matter what.  Turn up the fuel to just below smoke and 
I still mash it but for less time I guess.  I end up making BETTER mileage 
after turning it up.  More smile factor, lower 0 - 60 time and better 
mileage.  
Only the Jetta has defied me on this.  It just keeps making the same, lower 
than most of the other '85 Jetta TD drivers on the list get.  I'm beginning 
to 
wonder if it's the exhaust.  Comparing it to Dad's pickup that's what it 
tends 
to feel like.  Hard to replace a perfect exhaust though.
