Kind of like the old
hot rods with engines that require leaded fuel. And yes unleaded fuel
can ruin an engine designed for leaded fuel.

Here I go OT again but hey, some of us own old/older gas rigs. To be
compatable with unleaded you merely change the valve (especially
exhaust) seats or go to SS valves. The lead lubricated the friction
interface of the face to seat. Hard, carbon particles, etc imbed
themselves in the older, softer metal seats and valves. Without
the lead, they grind themselves away. Both don't need changed,
only one or the other. Particles stuck in one won't grind away the
SS and no particles stick in the hard, stainless so it doesn't grind
away the softer remaining surface.
Yeah, I hate to see how many of us lose pumps when they start
experimenting production of the new, low sulfur fuel. History shows
they're not likely to tell us so it's a matter of keeping a heads up
and using protection when the time looks near.
