[Vwdiesel] YIKES! Is this head useable?

I see those cracks ALL the time when I have a VW diesel
head off. When they get too deep they can get into the
cooling jacket, but until then they don't seem to really
cause any troubles. And they're always in the same place -
that narrow part between the valves in each cylinder.

I had a head rebuilt by some good guys here in Portland,
and they repaired the cracks by drilling them out and
welding, but even with how deep they were then they hadn't
gone too far. They were pretty bad looking from the
surface.

So as long as they aren't too deep I'd just use it. If it
looks like it is really starting to open up and get bad
then it might be time to have it repaired.
