  That was one thing our service manager informed me of right away.  
The VW diesels that were driven hard did fine and only came in for
periodic maintenence.  The ones that were driven easy came in for 
all kinds of little things.  He didn't know why but that was how it 
was.  One thing Scott seemed to find out is it keeps the intake 
valves cleaned off.  
 You might try a quart of ATF in the oil (Or Marvel Mystery Oil) and 
a half hour idle before changing it.  Might also dribble a half a quart 
through the intake as it's at a fast idle.  Does wonders on a gasser 
for clearing out carbon buildup.
