  Yes and no.  Most industrial applications involve sudden changes in load 
thus industrial governors pull full throttle at any deviation outside of the 
tolerance for the set speed.  A cruise control generally is a little more 
lenient and gently pulls the throttle and even more gently tends to let 
off.  I'm afraid if using it to run an intermittently used drill or such on a 

generator, the engine would be hunting quite a bit, constantly.  Might 
not but I suspect it would with the combination of the cruise's softness 
and the automotive governers soft reponse as well.
