You are so right. The metric system is screwed up because you wind up using
tenths of metres and tens of degrees, as the alternatives are too small
units.

  Doesn't make much difference.  A 2 x 4 hasn't been that size for well over
50 years.  They're now about 1.5 x 3.5.  1/2" ply is usually 15/32 and 7/16
OSB is often 13/32.
  Only annoying thing in metric is nothing between a m and a cm (nobody
really uses a dm do they?)  A lot of everyday measuring is done in feet.
To do it in lineal yards or inches really doesn't work as well and to
remember
to cut something at 655cm or 6.55m just doesn't stick as easily as 21- 6,
at least with the way MY brain's wired.  ;-)
