[Vwdiesel] Much ado about nothing?

Where would we be without cynics and sceptics?
Loren your either lucky or on the ball or a little of both
perhaps with respect of your glowplug reliability...
For me I've travelled only 40000 miles in my Quantum over 3
years. During which I've replaced one head and about 12
glowplugs.
I had 3 go a few weeks ago after a year of trouble free
starting.
As the 'Q's body was a gasser replacement after the PO
allowed the original diesel body to rot away;
the glowplug relay had never been reinserted into the relay
panel but was allowed to rest in the engine compartment.
Not all connections were attached ie the hot coolant wire
and the starter link.
The relay energising supply was simply one of the spare
wires that go live with ignition switch on.
My first plugs were 'slow' but replacements were various
brands of fast ones.
I attached to the bus bar supply a slave wire back through
to the switch area and put on a light.
There was no diesel LED in the gasser inst panel. The relay
was always energising for 45 seconds.
Last year I listened to advice and installed individual
wires to the GPs.
After the recent GP failures I decided to do something about
it as removing fuellines and then retorquing the fittings
can only lead to failure over time.
(If a set costs $100 over your way I'm sure they'll cost
twice that here) :o(
My recent addition to cure the problem is another switch to
turn off GP's as soon as not needed.
switching back on gives further possible 45 second heating
should it be required.
But I'm basically using it to turn off after a few seconds
or as I've discovered this week;
I have the option to leave GP's off if engine still warm...
