[Vwdiesel] heater core removal 86 Golf (help)

Back in 1989, VW recalled Jettas of the 1986 to 1988 vintage to replace
the heater core. Seems they were defective at the time of manufacture
and had the uncanny propensity to burst, causing scalds to the foot of
unwary drivers. Whether this recall extended to north-of-the-border
vehicles is unknown, but my 1988 Jetta was among those sporting a new
heater core.
