[Vwdiesel] Diesel Jell Temp?

It's -8F here right now, and I understand the relative meaning of cold.
I just hate 99F and 99% humidity.
On the fuel, there is no good way to know when things gel, other than
testing it. Take a sample, and stick it in your 0F freezer at home,
in a closed container. You're looking for the "cloud point" where the
parafins in the oil start to precipitate. These will clog your filter,
and cause things to not run.
Practically speaking, you want to ask your fuel supplier if they sell
"blended" fuel, which is mixed for colder temps. Usually the high
volume truck stops are good at that. The local service station selling
diesel at one pump _may_ not be. If the station is handling lots of
trucks and cars, and does good volume, you're often OK. Asking is the
best practical thing.
The downside of blending is that kerosine is used, which has lower
energy per gallon, and less lubrication. Not a big downside when the
temps are cold.
Let your vehicle warm up before going anyplace, if you feel things
dropping in power, pull into a spot where you can park, and look
at your clear fuel line going to the injector pump. Lots of bubbles
is a sign that you have a problem in the works.
Since you're in a high right now, you'll have good warming during the
day, and you'll probably get home OK.
Worst case, if you have a half tank, you can take several gallons of
kerosine, heat it by putting it on a heating duct in the house, and
then dump it into the tank just before leaving in the morning.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
