I finally cornered one of them and he told me that they will
be not importing TDI's for a bout a year and a half due to emissions
regs. Anyone heard about that? It's always hard to tell from a
salesman--the sound of their voices gets muffled as it passes throught
the lower abdomen. He didn't even ask me if I wanted to look at one.

Sounds like a lot of the dealers around here. :-P If they don't have the
volume allotment to get what you're asking for, they just tell you it either
doesn't exist or they're not importing them anymore. Maybe you'll just
fork over the cash for last choice or just leave and they can get back to
canasta or Joe-Bob's latest arrival from his subscription to Girsl Gone
Wild of the month.
A friend (Mike, worked at a dealer) called another dealer because he was
ready
to trade his pickup. Although they stayed open a half hour than his
work scheduel, that would only leave about 10 minutes before the
salesman's go-home time. Mike was told to come in on Saturday or during
his lunch (rather than the salesman stay a few minutes late.) Mike
called another dealer. That salesman said he'd wait for him so he could
look around. Mike ended up trading/buying a pickup that evening.
A friend of his worked at the dealer who's salesman told him to come
back at a time less convenient. During a staff meeting "the guy" who
wanted a pickup came up. The salesman wondered aloud about what
happened, he sounded promissing. The friend informed the idiot
salesman that indeed Mike WAS promissing as he bought a truck
THAT NIGHT from a saleman at another dealer, who actually was
willing to wait on him!
Not uncommon. There's a reason car salesmen rate right up there with
lawyers and politicians! ;-)
