What they mean is they aren't going to bother to certify the new chasis VWs
until ultra low sulfur diesel is available in 2006. They can continue to
import the 2005 models until they stop making them, because they are already
certified. There is no new emission standard. The standards have been in
place for over 10 years. The sales people are blowing smoke

I just had a very similar conversation with the sales personnel at
NorthTowne VW in Kansas City. There will be no diesels imported after 1
April 2005
until 1 April 2006. The emission issues were the reasons given. They
stated
that the 2005's will not meet the new emissions standards. Of course we
are
talking to members of the sales staff.
