[Vwdiesel] dipstick coming up

The real test is when you punch it, does the dipstick shoot through
the hood and impale someone in a car 1 mile down the road ahead of you?
Seriously, on a couple of cars, I've had loose dipsticks. They were
friction fit, and the dipstick was a semi-circular wire, which was
bent in a loop for the handle, and double think where it fit into the
crankcase. A washer type thing, with felt-like stuff apparently
"sealed" thing from incoming water and dust.
To get a tighter fit, I jambed a 3/16" screwdriver into the mateing of
the two wires, below the washer/dust protector assembly, and pinched
the wires together with two vice-grip pliers. This caused a bow which
gave suitable friction fit.
My recollection is this was the kid of dipstick on 77-80 VW diesels.
New VW diesel game...mount a 2" pipe from oil filler cap, through the
hood of the car, with a 90 degree bend to the front of the car. Prior
to driving, insert a firm, uncooked potato. When some rude gas guzzling
SUV passes you and makes digital gestures expressing his inconvenience
that you're driving a sensible, ecological vehicle, you have an option.
Simply punch it, with your slightly-greater-than-average-blowby 500,000 mi
on the odometer VW bunny, and watch as the potato launches, and takes
out his rear window, splattering raw slightly green stuff over the
interior of his sporty living room on wheels.
