[Vwdiesel] new SS dual exhaust for my Jetta TD

My 85 Jetta TD now runs with a straight pipe welded to the stub of the
spring-clip flange. No boxes needed to be quiet enough to convince Ohio law
enforcement that it is OK.
The original rear muffler was alarmingly heavy, and contributed to lots of
stress on the hangers. So, I just experimented with a straight pipe when I
replaced things a few years ago.....and never added any other components.
My experience with 3 VW diesels extending back to 1982 convinced me that
mine don't mainly rust out, but fracture due to vibration. And I think the
heavy components of the system contributed greatly to that vibration by
inducing nodes into the resonating components. The lighter pipes always
fractured in front or behind the heavy boxes. But they very seldom rusted
out, even with annual exposure to Ohio salt and calcium chloride. They broke.
