I had anonymous requests to expand on the details of the Kids Express (very slow)
from Copenhagen in 1941 . ----how can I refuse ?.

Does it tie in with VW diesels in the USA and -- so on ? ---yes it does. It is part of a
Journey . My American Friends : I do listen to CSPAN and CSPAN2 and 3 for hours on end.

This is an American site ---so I have to observe certain rules ? EH ?. ----and any objectors will
be respected.

The VW started with Hitler ? right ? RIGHT. ---and the train from Copenhagen was because of
Hitler RIGHT ? ----Germany and Hitler.

Enter Hagars Platform 9 and one half -- poor people have pride too --at least all the ones I met.

So there were all the doting Mothers with their little ones on that Platform 9.5 ----NO grown ups
ever went on that train that I saw. So we were all spiffied up ---my Mother used Margarine on my
hair (NO greasy kid stuff or Brylcreeme in those days) ---she made me promise NEVER to tell anyone.

Platform 9 and one half ? ----that you would find in Grand Central Copenhagen -----it was downstairs.

And GRAND it was with all those crying mothers ----and Jubilant Kids. ----it had to leave early in
the morning ---so it was rather early. -----It was a sight imprinted in my mind to the day I die.

The train people in those days used whistles ----to tell the Engineer to shove the throttle all the way forward.
0 to 60 in what ? ---- in about an hour.

All the kids were Grade 1-2-3 ----? or so. ------ it was a journey they all treasure to this day I am sure.

Traveling alone for a kid not dangerous ? ---Hell NO there were NO molesters in those days
only Friendly helpful people. ----Like the OLD Station master in Juels Minde --where I wound up
on the last train. Not my destination.. Here I have to tell a bit about Denmark 1941.

A fairy tale Country if there ever was one. ----I wish Hans Christian Andersen was here to help
out. -----Juels Minde ? end of the line ---last train for the day. I am stuck. Station
master --a great big heavyset older man in a black uniform ---see this little forlorn --confused
tyke with a manila tag ---? --yes ----he reads the tag ---and say --come on lets go see
what mother is cooking tonight.
Mother was a BIG BIG woman ----with a heart to match. ----This is one of those
small "Whistle stops?" ---and the ROSES were climbing all over the place.

I had Strawberries and cream and what not ---and she tucked me in for the night in a bed
so nice ---I have NO words to describe---- remember they are still using down filled bags.
Clean smelling sheets and so on. -----In the morning I had a breakfast
to end all breakfast. ----In the morning Danes are known to go a bit too far.

First train in the morning ? ---yes I was on it. -----small suitcase manila tag around the neck ----
on my way to Oester Lund ------my proper destination.
>From there to Grand Central NY ---in the entire state ? 1953 ? just one hell of
an adventure. ------I warn you time flies ---use it right. -----play with those kids and
grand-kids ----and if you wind up being a Step Father like me ? pay special
attention. ---NOTHING but NOTHING is more difficult. Doing a ring job ? piece of
Apple Pie.
In 1953 the American Railroad was probably at its peak ? ----And I shall never forget those
absolutely Enormous Steam Locomotives up front. -Every time we stopped I saw these
Hillbilly Inspectors go along with a long handled hammer ---and hit and listen -----I forgot
to ask what it was about. They sure looked more professional than Billie.

Across the USA ? in 1953 by train ? I should be so lucky ? EH ?. Maybe more on that some
other time.

Hagar. getting up to steam.
