Just got back from a LONG weekend at the beach. Fri to Tues. :-)
Weather was GREAT until about 10:30 PM on the 4th when a heavy
mist settled in briefly and broke up the fireworks a bit early. :-(
I'm going to have to work it out with the wife to somehow have dieselfest
on July 4th. There are just so many things going on so that NOBODY
could get bored around that holiday. This was Tahola's celebration of
the 150th anniversay of the signing of their treaty so they REALLY had
the fireworks this year. It's hard to decide to go there, down to the
beach where we usually do and so on.
We got the under-floor plumbing done on the "shed" and a couple
electrical boxes nailed and wire dragged to. Other than cutting 3 1/2"
(8.75cm) off the bottom of the living room entry door we didn't get much
else done on the place. Yeah, you might say the building's sagged a tad.

The fireworks were something else! A couple years ago I estimated
$1.5 million were visible from the Anadyne gap beach access. I figured
this year was likely to be $2 million! The rain cut that a little short
possibly. IT WAS IMPRESSIVE! You never knew which way to look!
Someone toward the hill/grass/cliff had a couple thousand $$ worth
they were setting off. There were large ones at PB proper, Moclips,
Copalis, along the stretch of Ocean Shores, up on the reservation and
the bigger ones over the hill from Tahola! Probably the most impressive
year yet. We quit trying to set any of ours off because even the better
ones were rather pathetic by comparrison!
I found out which "vendor" has the best Indian fry bread and Indian
tacos as well. They had boxing, (men and women) games, hot rod outboard
canoe races (we missed those AGAIN!) and that's just a bit of what Tahola
had to offer.
I'm hoping to put together a dieselfest gathering later this month or else
in early to mid August. If there's interest I'll see what I can muster up
in September here in Cashmere and include some orchard and packing
shed touring as well as (of course) an "impromptu" diesel parade down
main street. :-)
Dad just dropped in to say that even with me driving over half the way,
the Passat got close to 54mpg this trip. :-)
Spotted very few VW diesels the whole weekend. One Jetta TDI and
a nice looking early Rabbit on a car lot that could've been diesel due
to the good condition of it. (Seems mostly the diesels were kept in good
condition.)
